You can convert your basement into a game or party room that the entire family will enjoy. The dark and dreary basement can be transformed into the most popular area of the home just by doing a few creative things that will ensure everyone enjoys spending time in this remodeled room.

The very first thing you must do of course is install proper lighting. As you are going down the stairs carrying on the snacks and drinks for family fun night, the best lights to have are sensor lights. These lights will come on automatically when they sense motion on the staircase and will go off when motion is no longer detected.

Other lighting depends on what you want to use the basement for such as game room or family/TV room. You can add lighting around the ceiling known as strip lighting, which will bring light to all those dark corners and even extra lighting over the pool table. On the other hand, if you want the basement to be more a theater, you will not want the bright lights except for when you are not watching a movie.

This is an awesome place for family room as it is more soundproof than other areas of the home, so you will not have to invest in more soundproofing products. Choose your HDTV wisely. You will want one that everyone can see from any angle and you will want comfortable seating as well. If your basement is large enough, you can easily have a gaming area with pool tables and a jukebox and then the HDTV in the other area. You can also use remote control curtains (that are sound proof) for sectioning off the game room from the HDTV viewing area so the kids can enjoy a game of pool, while you enjoy a romantic movie.
